Book Short Summary:

Without even realizing it, the German professor Lidenbrock purchases his ticket to the center of the Earth. He finds an original runic manuscript which unfolds a long kept secret. The center of the Earth lies at the bottom of an Icelandic volcano. The obvious choice is to embark on a journey down the volcano and make the biggest discovery of all times. However there are so many dangers and obstacles, that the expedition seems to be doomed to failure. Will the professor get to the bottom of things or he will lose his life trying? Will he get to describe his findings or the nature will find a way to keep its secrets? Jules Verne’s "Journey to the Center of the Earth" takes us on an amazing adventure through the Earth’s depths which will leave us wondering if we really know that much about the Earth. Jules Verne (1828-1905) was a French novelist who mostly wrote adventure fiction inspired by the scientific advances of the 19th century. With the help of editor Pierre-Jules Hetzel he wrote a series of books called "Extraordinary Travels", which includes "Journey to the Center of the Earth" (1864), "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea" (1870), and "Around the World in Eighty Days" (1873). Widely popular with both children and adults, Verne is one of the most translated authors of all times, and still inspires people the world over.

A Journey to the Center of the Earth, also translated as A Journey to the Interior of the Earth, follows a man, his nephew and their guide down an Icelandic volcano into the center of the earth. There they encounter an ancient landscape filled with prehistoric animals and natural dangers. There is some discussion as to whether Verne really believed that such things might be found in the center, or whether he shared the alternate view, expressed by another character in the novel, that it was not so.

Book Short Summary:

Discover the secret world beneath ours in this abridged version of Jules Verne’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth. Summary of the Book When Alex hears his uncle proclaim that they are about to embark on a quest to find a crater, he is surprised. For one thing, it means leaving his betrothed to go on a mad quest. For another, it means going to Iceland to find a certain crater that leads down into a mysterious world. But Professor Lidenbrock is a hard man to ignore. Fuelled by the spirit of adventure, Alex leaves with Lidenbrock to find this mysterious crater which will take them to a world below the surface. They hire a guide called Hans who takes them to the volcano. Down one of its three craters, these three travellers find a majestic world hidden for centuries, even millennia. Here, prehistoric creatures roam free, and a huge species of man walks upright. Here, there is a large ocean where Palaeolithic creatures rule undeterred by the passage of time. If these three travellers can return home, this discovery will make them rich and famous beyond their wildest dreams. But then again, to do so they will have to find a way out of this world. And so far, there doesn’t seem to be one. About Jules Verne Jules Verne was a French novelist best associated with his books Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, In Search of the Castaways, The Mysterious Island and Around The World In Eighty Days. The above title has been adapted into several films, including a recent 3-D film by Eric Brevig, starring Brendan Fraser, Anita Briem and Josh Hutcherson. This film is a loose adaptation and is intended to be a sequel rather than a true adaptation of Verne’s text.

Book Short Summary:

A Journey to the Center of the Earth is a science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snćfellsjokull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano. The genre of subterranean fiction already existed long before Verne. However, the present book considerably added to its popularity and influenced later such writings. For example, Edgar Rice Burroughs explicitly acknowledged Verne's influence on his own Pellucidar series. It is noteworthy that at the time of writing Verne had no hesitation with having sympathetic German protagonists with whom the reader could identify. Verne's attitude to Germans would drastically change in the aftermath of the 1871 Franco-Prussian War. After 1871, The sympathetic if eccentric Professor Otto Lidenbrock would be replaced in Verne's fiction by the utterly evil and demonic Professor Schultze of The Begum's Fortune.

Book Short Summary:

A Journey to the Center of the Earth is a science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves German professor Otto Lidenbrock who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the centre of the Earth. He, his nephew Axel, and their guide Hans descend into the Icelandic volcano Snæfellsjokull, encountering many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, before eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy, at the Stromboli volcano. The genre of subterranean fiction already existed long before Verne. However, the present book considerably added to its popularity and influenced later such writings. For example, Edgar Rice Burroughs explicitly acknowledged Verne's influence on his own Pellucidar series. The book was inspired by Charles Lyell's Geological Evidences of the Antiquity of Man of 1863 (and probably also influenced by Lyell's earlier ground-breaking work Principles of Geology, published 1830–33). By that time geologists had abandoned a literal biblical account of Earth's development and it was generally thought that the end of the last glacial period marked the first appearance of humanity, but Lyell drew on new findings to put the origin of human beings much further back in the deep geological past. Lyell's book also influenced Louis Figuier's 1867 second edition of La Terre avant le déluge ("The Earth before the flood") which included dramatic illustrations of savage men and women wearing animal skins and wielding stone axes, in place of the Garden of Eden shown in the 1863 edition.

Book Short Summary:

"Scientific arguments alone could have any weight with Professor Liedenbrock. Now there were good ones against the practicability of such a journey. Penetrate to the center of the earth! What nonsense! But I kept my dialectic battery in reserve for a suitable opportunity, and I interested myself in the prospect of my dinner, which was not yet forthcoming." "Journey to the Center of the Earth" by Jules Verne is a classic of early science fiction. It is full of wonderful imagery and colour for the imagination.

One of the places it mentions about is the Muddy Mountains up in the state of Wyoming nearby Rawlins, Wyoming, but Pete Ashcraft hires Vincent Doreance as he is trying to stop Gregg Tuskins from discovering this old doorway as Vincent Doreance has murdered people that have been getting too close in trying to find this old abandoned mine shaft. Some of the weird and strange things started back when the mine shaft was discovered back in the late 1800s. This also probably caused the death of a miner that caused the shaft to become abandoned until now. The Slaughter House Gulch Ghost has been haunting the trail that the miners once used to travel back and forth from their camp to the mine shaft, and they end up discovering this doorway deep inside this old abandoned mine shaft that was closed down around one hundred years ago as this doorway is strange and weird looking as it doesn’t look like it was created by earthlings as it has green tint in different areas on this doorway as the dark transparent is too dark to see through. The mysterious doorway has held secrets of an ancient alien race for over one hundred years as they expedition is about to discover what lies behind the green door.

Book Short Summary:

Conrad de Lancey has seen enough of evil: the shadow of fear on the faces of innocents;the roar of tanks through empty streets;the sudden lull before the slaughter begins. Franco's bloody insurrection taught this Englishman all about hell. Arriving in his mother's country, the now Nazi Germany, Conrad is sick at heart. Even Berlin – infamous haven of decadence and vice – salutes fascism. Himmler's black-shirted troops rule the city, and every German arm bears a Swastika. But does every German heart belong to Hitler? When Conrad is arrested by the Gestapo on suspicion of spying, he is rescued by Theo, an old friend from university, now a lieutenant of the Wehrmacht. Together they are drawn into a world of danger and deceit, of plots, paranoia and intrigue where the brave few are united by a single ambition: to free the fatherland from the Führer.
