Book Short Summary:

In these delightful meditations, biologist and bird lover Richard Cannings weaves stories of his personal encounters with birds into fascinating descriptions of their behavior, anatomy, and evolution. He muses over the meadowlarks’ ability to hide their nests so completely that he has seen only two in a lifetime spent searching for them; the trumpeter swan, as picky as a two-year old, devouring potatoes and carrots but turning up its beak at Brussels sprouts; the northern gannet, with its snowy plumage, black wingtips, and startling blue eyes; the little saw-whet owl, which dabbles in bigamy and even trigamy; and more than two dozen other birds. Covering the entire continent, from the cacophony of a seabird colony on the shores of the Atlantic to a symphony of snow geese on the autumn plains to songbird courtship in the alpine tundra of the Rockies, An Enchantment of Birds informs and entertains, in one fell swoop.

Book Short Summary:

In 1986, B.K.P. Horn published a book entitled Robot Vision, which actually discussed a wider ?eld of subjects, basically addressing the ?eld of computer vision, but introducing “robot vision” as a technical term. Since then, the - teraction between computer vision and research on mobile systems (often called “robots”, e.g., in an industrial context, but also including vehicles, such as cars, wheelchairs, tower cranes, and so forth) established a diverse area of research, today known as robot vision. Robot vision (or, more general, robotics) is a fast-growing discipline, already taught as a dedicated teaching program at university level. The term “robot vision” addresses any autonomous behavior of a technical system supported by visual sensoric information. While robot vision focusses on the vision process, visual robotics is more directed toward control and automatization. In practice, however, both ?elds strongly interact. Robot Vision 2008 was the second international workshop, counting a 2001 workshop with identical name as the ?rst in this series. Both workshops were organized in close cooperation between researchers from New Zealand and Germany, and took place at The University of Auckland, New Zealand. Participants of the 2008 workshop came from Europe, USA, South America, the Middle East, the Far East, Australia, and of course from New Zealand.

Book Short Summary:

Yes, the Bible is the world’s all-time best-seller. It has been translated into most of the world’s languages. Yet, unlike most other best-sellers, it often gathers dust on the shelf! Research by the Scripture Union at the end of the twentieth century showed that fewer Christians read the bible regularly than at any point during that century, and a large proportion of 15’s - 25’s hardly read it at all! These days we can’t say it’s too hard to read, because there are excellent modern versions available. It probably has more to do with the fact that the Bible isn’t just one book - it’s a library! There’s history, law, poetry, biography, romance and adventure. But where do you start? Where do you look? You need to have a ‘balanced diet’ in what you read. There is danger in only learning a few ‘favourite’ verses or sticking to ‘easy’ books. We need the wider picture, or we will get things out of context. This booklet is designed to help by giving an overview of the Bible with a brief summary and outline of each of its 66 books.

Book Short Summary:

Description This e book is about my experiences and what I have seen through my extensive counselling and therapy as I translate in a language that many can understand my experiences as I come out of the shock from a great war of my conscience that was fought over a period of 32 years for the right just to live a normal life, free from the control of society, governments and satanic inspired people who wanted to create in me a new species, devoid of all the godly values that Christ bestow on mankind when he died on the cross and rose from the dead to eternal life. Both spiritual and natural. It is about my discoveries as being considered the vile, because of my mental illness, in a affluent society that only consider the poor as commerce to be sold and bought, to fight their wars and die without living. Mostly in America and how the normal community treated me as an individual. It shows how many people just wanted to experiment on me as their guinea pig so that in the world of commerce they would be able to use my spiritual knowledge to fool many into believing that they are wise. It shows what those who believe in the humanist theory that we evolved from apes and life just happened without a reason that has led to so many wars as mankind is no longer held accountable for their actions and so to bring peace we as the more advance nations send troops to foreign lands to kill in the image of making a better world. About the Author Horace Smith at the age of ten was sodomised by a paedophile ring that existed in the black Jamaican church, in a satanic ritual service to gain power over his soul, which is quite common in the Jamaican and African religious communities, here in London in the 70s. This tragic event led to severe mental health problems that has existed in Horace's life for 32 years to date. It was in 1991 that on his return back to London and after seeing a consultant at SLAM he was diagnosed wit paranoid schizophrenia and hearing voices and seeing delusions, but with the help of treatment and medication, Horace is able to live a near normal life.

On This Day With all the crazy things going in the world, I find this to be an opportune time to say that `I love all of you first and foremost. In the last few years I`ve had a number of family members and friends either fallen sick or passed away. I took for granted thinking we`d always talk tomorrow. Well, I came to realize the `planner` had plans of his own. To keep things short, if any of you have a problem with someone, be the bigger person, make amends and iron out your differences. Because if you wait for tomorrow, that just might be the day you`re going to be judged. Not for how much money you made, how many businesses you`ve owned, or how successful you became, but by how many of your enemies you forgave!

Killing Joke are worthy of more than a quiet mention on the back of the socially acceptable bands who rip off their riffs, so who else than a big-mouthed truth speaker to share her views and observations about a post punk / industrial rock band who remain superior to most, unknown to many, an inpiration to more and yet still utterly offensive to some. An extended review of a unique band with a massive cult following, coupled with the real life soap opera of a jackanapes...

Book Short Summary:

Birds are the most diverse group of land vertebrates and have evolved to exploit almost every terrestrial niche on earth. They also serve as a natural reservoir for an array of different pathogens that pose serious health risks to human and domestic animal populations, including West Nile virus, highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses, Newcastle Disease virus, and numerous enteric pathogens. Avian diseases are also critically important to the conservation of endemic bird species in many places around the world. This accessible textbook focuses on the dynamics of infectious diseases for wild avian hosts across every level of ecological hierarchy, from the way pathogens interact with the physiology and behavior of individual hosts, the evolutionary and ecological dynamics of the host-parasite interactions occurring within populations, up to the complex biotic and abiotic interactions occurring within biological communities and ecosystems. Parasite-bird interactions are also increasingly occurring in rapidly changing global environments - thus, their ecology is also changing - and this shapes the complex ways by which parasites influence the inter-connected health of birds, humans, and shared ecosystems. Given the key role of birds in ecological communities more broadly, and as the primary host to so many zoonotic pathogens, an understanding of the ecological and evolutionary principles underlying the maintenance, amplification, transmission, and dispersal of these infectious agents is crucial to understanding how to mitigate the negative global impacts of the ever-increasing number of emerging infectious diseases. Although the topics and principles discussed in this book relate to birds, they have a far wider relevance and can also be applied to non-avian, wildlife host-pathogen systems. The COVID-19 pandemic has shown that understanding of disease ecology in wild animal populations is paramount to global health. Infectious Disease Ecology of Wild Birds is suitable for both senior undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in avian disease ecology, ecoimmunology, ecology, and conservation. It will also appeal to the many professional parasitologists, ecoimmunologists, ornithologists, behavioural ecologists, conservation biologists, and wildlife biologists requiring a concise overview of the topic.

Book Short Summary:

In most societies, poetry was once a thing for the indulgence of the elite minds alone. Cloaked in rigorous and bogus words which alienated most of the rest of society. But the beauty of the depth, rhythm, and mystery of poetry should be for all to appreciate. Poetry has a way of churning our souls with simple words whose meaning sets us rightly on a path of deep awareness. In Birds Eye, the young poet Sally Williams passionately weaves a bridge between classical poetry and contemporary poetry (spoken word) in a way that makes it easy for all to savour yet preserve the essence of poetry itself. She captures the emotions of the dark side of our existence, gives voice to a compelling perception of our daily living and then opens our minds to see a utopia that does not need tomorrow to begin.
