Book Excerpt :

An ex is an ex for a reason To Rebecca Winters, it’s not just a saying or the title to a catchy tune, it’s a rule she staunchly lives by. Especially since the break up with herex. What’s the point in trying to fix the “unfixable”? Besides, only a girl hell-bent onmore heartbreak would go back to the guy who bailed on her when she needed him most. But saying no to Scott is becoming more difficult than surviving the breakup itself. And unfortunately for her, the kind of pressure he's exerting is making her rule all too easy to break. Scott Carver has given up trying to get over his ex. He’s still in love with her and their year apart has done nothing to change that. Yeah, he knows he screwed up. Just how royally, he wasn't aware of until now. So when Becca agrees to give him a second chance, he grabs on to it with both hands. But it’s clear the only way things will ever truly be right between them is if he comes clean…about everything. He can only pray the truth doesn’t send her running—for good this time.

Book Short Summary:

A collection of short stories inspired by different Middle Eastern and European cultures, and derived from several historical periods, including World War I, World War II, the Cold War and the present day. It casts a light on such things as religious conflicts and social changes and includes stories based on actual and notorious court cases. The collection divides into three parts. The first or Baghdadi part is a collection of stories and anecdotes relating historically to a period starting with the last days of the Ottoman Empire just before World War I and ending with the social and political upheaval in the Middle East, resulting from the changes brought about by the war, the rise of nationalism, the founding of the State of Israel and its aftermath of conflict and mass population displacement. The second relates to the period of the Cold War and the political and social changes in Europe observed through the eyes of an engaged outsider. It includes a description of some leading political figures of the period. The third relates to the timeless topic of crime and punishment, justice and injustice. It includes sketches of some eminent judges and lawyers, and sheds a new light on some notorious cases, as well as providing answers to intriguing questions left in their wake, hitherto known to very few. These collected short stories, while not biographical, reflect the three phases of the author's life. The title is derived from the story of that title, which may be seen as an allegory of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Book Short Summary:

They are a demographer’s delight and a marketer’s challenge. They are the baby boomers, and conservative estimates put them in control of 70 percent of disposable income in the United States. They are also growing older, developing health issues and are often caregivers for their own aged parents. For 43.5 million Americans, caregiving for someone over age 50 is their ‘new normal’, including many who are caregiving while still in the workforce and others who may still have adult children living at home. Finding the Silver Lining is a practical resource based on the experience of a couple providing care to the author’s aging parents over a period of 20-plus years. It traces the myriad health, social, economic and psychological realities of facing the mortality of one’s own parents and preparing for them in a way that will reduce stress and provide administrative clarity. This book also covers the author’s journey from a working woman and CEO of her own company into retirement, as Baby Boomers transition into the next stage of life. Finding the Silver Lining is a compendium of expert advice from a range of highly credible sources, layered in with the personal experiences of a loving and committed daughter and son- in-law. As a singular personal reference, it will provide the reader with reassurance that you are not alone and that there are many valuable resources almost at your fingertips.
