Book Excerpt :

I helped Tommie with the editing of ‘A Lonesome Warrior'... therefore read this book twice and have come to feel I know this Warrior. Tommie enjoys life to the extremes. He manages to root out the very highs and lows of his full life and is kind enough to allow us to know the feelings they brought to him as well as how he handled each. He’s a tough Marine that can cry. I found him to be a man of his convictions and not afraid of following them to where ever they take him. A man with profound insight who, sees a need, and then organizes and teaches those that can fill that need. A man I admire. He’s managed to fill his life with such variety of experiences that it seems he should be at least twice his age. All in all, a read like I’m sure you have never encountered before. Russ Payne

Book Short Summary:

Once in a lifetime, everyone falls in love, and if your feelings are true, the entire universe conspires in your fairy tale. However, I wish to reflect on the dark part of love and how the pain is equally enjoyable when you have an incomplete story to tell. Yes, it’s not poetry or a sonnet but a story that I wish readers to experience, especially the youth. As the title does not suggest, the book is actually a collection of heart-written poems that portray honest confession of an immortal lover. The words deployed in this book are true feelings garnered in the most beautiful and simple manner in a language that only a lover can understand. The book is dedicated to the one who left an imperfect me in this perfect world that still fails to accept me and to the madness that made me write through these sleepless nights. “Some stories remain incomplete . . . incomplete forever. Writing these stories is an immortal lover.”

It takes the reader on a journey through vivid snapshots of war, love, life and death, seen both through the lens of PTSD and from the perspective of someone who has overcome it.

Book Short Summary:

“How Sex and the City’s Carrie Bradshaw might have sounded if she’d been born with a Russian Jewish mother . . . Terrific fun” (Janis Cooke Newman, author of A Master Plan for Rescue). This is the entertaining tale of Emma Kaulfield as she tries to find her own path in life—while surrounded by her Russian immigrant family’s struggle to assimilate, their newfound love of capitalism, and their insistent push for their children’s tangible success. Emma escaped the Soviet Union in the 1980s when she was ten—hers was one of the last Jewish families to be let out. Now a gorgeous young woman, going to grad school at NYU, chafing at the cultural restraints of her heritage, Emma is engaged to someone just like her—a handsome young Russian Jew—but then a steamy encounter with a stranger in a restaurant bathroom turns into a torrid love affair. She wrestles with what she should do (career vs. art); who she should love (one of her own vs. the exotic temptation), and whether to remain loyal to her family, her people—after all they have suffered—or cut ties and defy those who love her. The Matrimonial Flirtations of Emma Kaulfield is a laugh-out-loud binge read from a “compelling new voice” (Kirkus Reviews).

Book Short Summary:

“My Theory of Everything” is a treatise designed around a personal spiritual experience during a near-death episode in 1994. I was informed a major worldwide spiritual attitude change would begin in 2012. That event happened as predicted, July 4, 2012, at the European Organization for Nuclear Research in Switzerland, a.k.a. CERN, a massive circular atom and subatomic particle smasher built underground and managed by scientists. By reverse-engineering creation of matter, they discovered all matter has a common denominator called the Higgs Boson. The international press quickly dubbed this brilliant discovery of the Higgs Boson force field the God particle, and it stuck! OMG. Does that mean our physical reality has a permanent unlimited, unboundaried common denominator? I was reluctant to take on this chore but was assured by my source that my effort at understanding our creation will grow all by Itself, first, very slowly, then as more and more people realize the fact of GOD, it will begin to seriously fester within society and will eventually affect behavior in all cultures of human consciousness and eventually cause a total revolution of world thought about concepts of God and religion. Plus, we will all have a renewed chance at a serious evaluation of our currently held philosophical concepts and ancient religious beliefs.

This book presents in a concise way the Mie theory and its current applications. It begins with an overview of current theories, computational methods, experimental techniques, and applications of optics of small particles. There is also some biographic information on Gustav Mie, who published his famous paper on the colour of Gold colloids in 1908. The Mie solution for the light scattering of small spherical particles set the basis for more advanced scattering theories and today there are many methods to calculate light scattering and absorption for practically any shape and composition of particles. The optics of small particles is of interest in industrial, atmospheric, astronomic and other research. The book covers the latest developments in divers fields in scattering theory such as plasmon resonance, multiple scattering and optical force.

What happens after we die? Where does our soul go? An experience that will never let you go. Encounters that are difficult to explain. How being a highly sensitive person has its’ challenges in life. Themes that deal with life and death, and the question of what comes next after we leave this planet. Based on her profound insight into these provocative questions, Monica Hards tells in her book “Dying to live” of her own out-of-body and near-death experiences, and much more. We shouldn’t let ourselves be controlled by our mind. Believing even in what we cannot see and grounding our energy when we feel fear, doubt or anxiety. Using an energy greater then guilt, pain, fear, anger, shame or unworthiness to be present in the moment. We might find it more exciting to be caught up in an abusive dynamic with someone than to say yes to love that is readily available and healthy for us. We are all connected to each other through a kaleidoscope of relationships. We need each other to survive and thrive, but independently and not co dependently. This book is designed to help you discover your soul’s real truth.

Book Short Summary:

The four men spotlighted in this book, together with other black religious and political leaders and communities, have developed distinctive and significant traditions of moral thinking and social criticism. . Although the principal concern of these thinkers was social justice entailing significant institutional transformations in American society, they were also attentive to the substantive content and formal character of the authentically free life and moral person. Indeed, most of them realized that authentic liberation required personal as well as social transformation. . Despite the significance and diversity of perspective in black theology, however, much of it does not adequately attend to the host of issues related to personal identity, wholeness, and fulfillment. ... This general inattention to the personal dimension of the liberation enterprise has important consequences. Failure to understand the person-centered dimension of a broader, inclusive societal transformation can lead to a disturbing paradox: an optimism concerning the future of society existing alongside personal and familial disintegration, despair and frustration. . Our method for. correcting the perspectival imbalance in black theology is to identify the finest and most-trusted resources and reflections on personal wholeness in the modern black community and to present them for revision, reconsideration, and possible reappropriation. . In this book, I examine visions of human fulfillment and of the just society as presented by Booker T. Washington (1856-1915), W. E. B. Du Bois (1868-1963), Malcolm X (1925-1965), and Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968). . As I examined the ranks of post-Reconstruction African American leaders, I did so with an eye for those whose intellectual and political influence upon past and present Americans could be characterized as monumental.

Book Short Summary:

“I build this story like my lair. One willow, / a rib at a time” — “The Crooked Good” Since 1990, Sky Dancer Louise Bernice Halfe’s work has stood out as essential testimony to Indigenous experiences within the ongoing history of colonialism and the resilience of Indigenous storytellers. Sôhkêyihta includes searing poems, written across the expanse of Halfe’s career, aimed at helping readers move forward from the darkness into a place of healing. Halfe’s own afterword is an evocative meditation on the Cree word sôhkêyihta: Have courage. Be brave. Be strong. She writes of coming into her practice as a poet and the stories, people, and experiences that gave her courage and allowed her to construct her “lair.” She also reflects on her relationship with nêhiyawêwin, the Cree language, and the ways in which it informs her relationships and poetics. The introduction by David Gaertner situates Halfe’s writing within the history of whiteness and colonialism that works to silence and repress Indigenous voices. Gaertner pays particular attention to the ways in which Halfe addresses, incorporates, and pushes back against silence, and suggests that her work is an act of bearing witness – what Kwagiulth scholar Sarah Hunt identifies as making Indigenous lives visible.

Which will take him on an adventure, across strange lands and places, seeing even stranger animals, and making friends with people and creatures, he couldn’t have imagined. Book Short Summary:

In this era of ubiquitous information flow, heightened mobility and limitless consumer convenience, human interaction with new technologies has become increasingly seamless. In the process, the human body is effectively and steadily reduced to just another interface, or a “second life”, so to speak. What is easily forgotten during this translucent transaction is that being human also necessarily implies being embodied. In other words, to constitute a body in its non-negotiable physicality is still what it entails to be human (amongst other things). To live daily in and through the complicated and dynamic intersection between “mind” and “body”, psychology and physiology―also known as embodiment―is what makes us human.

Book Short Summary:

LAUGHING IN THE FACE OF TERRORISM is a collection of five books under a new title making the works affordable and a bargain for teachers and students of literature, culture, diversity seekers and the general public. The search for harmony is a main theme in Tejani's work and here he speaks of it in words destined to be classic: Music has the sweetness of the September sun, the tenderness of a bird call in the woods, the depth of unknown oceans and the serenity of the earth's swift strong glide across space. You will marvel at the incredibly comic mission of the new Indian immigrant in America to teach Americans how to speak English properly. Or rejoice in the friendship between Washington, America's First President and a Muslim boy on Mount Rushmore. Even wonder at Shakespeare committing suicide on the stage. For variety, Tejani teases the women of the world by comparing their scent to the aroma of rain on earth; and exposes the vulnerability of men with satire on their pre-occupation with the 'thermostat between their legs'. In this collection Ba Tejani has set out with mischief in his heart, irreverent wisdom in his hands and a tickling, teasing imagination which carries you on with a smile and a large question. Just what is he upto? What gifts of humanist synthesis does he have in his heart that we emerge refined and delighted and not peeved after reading one of his stories or watching his play? 451 Pages

Powerful, revered, and often reclusive, Mystics have the unique ability to summon and manipulate the Myst: the underlying energy that lives at the heart of the universe. Once in a very great while, they take an apprentice, always from the most privileged sects of society. Such has always been the tradition-until a new High Mystic takes her seat and chooses Pomella AnDone, a restless, low-born teenager, as a candidate. Commoners have never been welcomed among the select few given the opportunity to rise beyond even the highest nobility. So when Pomella chooses to accept the summons and journey to Kelt Apar, she knows that she will have more to contend with than the competition for the apprenticeship. Breaking both law and tradition, Pomella undergoes three trials against the other candidates to prove her worthiness. As the trials unfold, Pomella navigates a deadly world of intolerance and betrayal, unaware that ruthless conspirators intend to make her suffer for having the audacity to seek to unravel the secrets of the Myst. Book Short Summary:

Black Fox is a Cherokee Lighthorseman, a lawman who believes that the White man's law is the only way his people can hold control of the Nation. He is on the hunt for The Cat, an outlaw who has been stealing goods to deliver to poor families and allegedly killed a US Marshall in the process. After a robbery and subsequent shoot out in town, Black Fox spots a young boy running from the scene and follows him, sure he is The Cat. But to his surprise, the boy turns out to be a girl! Cathleen O'Sullivan has no need for the law, especially when they refused to prosecute the man who destroyed her family. Now disguised as The Cat, she steals goods from her enemy to help the poor, and if it brings havoc to him and his bootlegging partners, then all the better. Then during a shootout, she is wounded, and captured by Black Fox. This ruggedly handsome lawman is not at all what she expected, especially when he cares for her wounds and protects her from her enemies instead of hauling her off to jail. She insists she's being framed for murder, and though Black Fox knows he should not be seduced by this spunky slip of a girl who has no respect for the law, he's torn between loving her and arresting her.

Book Short Summary:

In 1944, long before he wrote such classic novels as I Am Legend and What Dreams May Come, author Richard Matheson served as an eighteen-year-old replacement in the 87th Division during the latter part of the war in Europe. His tour of duty there inspired this acclaimed novel, The Beardless Warriors, about a group of equally young and inexperienced soldiers thrown into the fury of combat. The Beardless Warriors are a squad of teenage U.S. infantrymen fighting their way across Germany during the final weeks of the war. Under fire and in over their heads, the fresh-faced young men must grow up fast if they ever hope to see home again. Everett Hackermeyer is the latest soldier to join the squad, "Hack," a troubled youth from a hellish family background, faces a new kind of inferno on the front lines, only to discover hidden reserves he never knew he possessed. Ironically, he doesn't come to value his own life until he runs the very real chance of losing it. Zeke and Ned is the story of Ezekiel Proctor and Ned Christie, the last Cherokee warriors -- two proud, passionate men whose remarkable quest to carve a future out of Indian Territory east of the Arkansas River after the Civil War is not only history but legend. Played out against an American West governed by a brutal brand of frontier justice, this intensely moving saga brims with a rich cast of indomitable and utterly unforgettable characters such as Becca, Zeke's gallant Cherokee wife, and Jewel Sixkiller Proctor, whose love for Ned makes her a tragic heroine. At once exuberant and poignant, bittersweet and brilliant, Zeke and Ned takes us deep into the hearts of two extraordinary men who were willing to go the distance for the bold vision they shared -- and for the women they loved.

Book Short Summary:

Written to commemorate the Bicentennial in 1976, James A. Michener’s magnificent saga of the West is an enthralling celebration of the frontier. Brimming with the glory of America’s past, the story of Colorado—the Centennial State—is manifested through its people: Lame Beaver, the Arapaho chieftain and warrior, and his Comanche and Pawnee enemies; Levi Zendt, fleeing with his child bride from the Amish country; the cowboy, Jim Lloyd, who falls in love with a wealthy and cultured Englishwoman, Charlotte Seccombe. In Centennial, trappers, traders, homesteaders, gold seekers, ranchers, and hunters are brought together in the dramatic conflicts that shape the destiny of the legendary West—and the entire country. BONUS: This edition includes an excerpt from James A. Michener's Hawaii. Praise for Centennial “A hell of a book . . . While he fascinates and engrosses, Michener also educates.”—Los Angeles Times “An engrossing book . . . imaginative and intricate . . . teeming with people and giving a marvelous sense of the land.”—The Plain Dealer “Michener is America’s best writer, and he proves it once again in Centennial. . . . Michener is a superb storyteller.”—BusinessWeek
